The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Sebastian Castro fell into pick 190.
They are betting Davis proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That linebacker hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a problem off the edge, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Luther Burden III in the Round 2 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dylan Sampson at pick No. 76. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They robbed the room for Charles Grant here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A quarterback of that caliber at No. 170 is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
Oronde Gadsden II at the 172nd pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for Hayden Conner, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Taking Sebastian Castro in pick 190 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Alijah Huzzie at the 211th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jasheen Davis in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
