The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Andrew Mukuba, the No. 87 name on the board, sitting there at pick No. 211 like a gift left on the doorstep. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They will need Davis to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kaleb Johnson in pick No. 44 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Carson Schwesinger in the 76th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board fumbled Darius Alexander all the way to the Round 5 slot, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
They will replay Tyler Shough at slot 170 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Oronde Gadsden II at the 172nd pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Charles Grant in Round 5, Pick 35 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Emery Jones Jr. at No. 190 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Andrew Mukuba still on the board at pick No. 211. A minor need, but a need all the same.
