The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
Dankwah has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. On value alone, Penix Jr. makes the weekend a net positive. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 8 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Morgan at pick No. 36 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Michael Penix Jr. at slot 40 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Xavier Legette in the Round 2 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
T.J. Tampa at pick 67 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kamren Kinchens slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 14 is lovely value for the safety. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Value with a capital V on Blake Corum in the 100th overall pick, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Matt Goncalves in the 139th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Xavier Thomas at Round 5, Pick 16 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
Value said wait; Anim Dankwah in the 222nd pick says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
