You could see the war room lean forward. Cody Simon at pick No. 238 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Dellinger reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
A big swing on Darien Porter at pick No. 61, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They talked themselves into Emery Jones Jr. at the 100th overall pick, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay TreVeyon Henderson at the 148th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Luke Lachey in slot 207 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: Cody Simon at No. 238 is a fall that decides a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Garrett Dellinger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
