The Commanders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Ryan Fitzgerald fell into slot 238.
They are betting Thornton Jr. proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They barely believed it either: Tyler Warren still on the board at the 61st overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid sticker price for Darien Porter in slot 79, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Steal is underselling it; TreVeyon Henderson at the Round 4 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick No. 148, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Hayden Conner at Round 6, Pick 32, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: Ryan Fitzgerald at No. 238 is a fall that decides a draft. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Thor Griffith at pick 250 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
