Whoever sat across the table from the Commanders should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
The King steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Adding Broderick Jones by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 23 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on Troy Fautanu at the 36th pick, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, T.J. Tampa went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 55 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Kalen King at Round 3, Pick 3 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Bucky Irving in pick 100. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They jumped the gun on Gabriel Murphy, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
Nelson Ceaser in slot 141 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
They went early on Michael Barrett in No. 181, and the value did not follow. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
They read the board right and Isaiah Neyor was the payoff at the 223rd overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
