Thirty-one other rooms let Lathan Ransom slide, and the Commanders were the ones holding the card at the Round 6 slot. Highway robbery. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They will need Jackson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get an island corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Donovan Jackson at the 61st overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Alfred Collins still on the board at pick 79. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Circle this one: Savion Williams at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Lathan Ransom in the 203rd pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 236 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Steal is underselling it; Kyle Monangai at pick No. 247 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
