The Commanders went off the board in a big way for Jalen Rivers, 97 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Carter. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 32 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Omarion Hampton in Round 2, Pick 32 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Zy Alexander at the 79th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
You do not let a wide receiver like Jack Bech reach pick 96 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darius Alexander. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Barrett Carter at the 146th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Joshua Gray in Round 6, Pick 28, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jalen Rivers well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Taking Akili Arnold in pick 247 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
