The Charles Turner III selection is the head-turner. The Packers reached 92 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Dixon pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 28 they get an anchor for the offensive line, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
By-the-book stuff, Kris Jenkins at pick 41 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking T.J. Tampa in the Round 2 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
McKinnley Jackson at the 88th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Kiran Amegadjie in the 91st overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jaden Hicks at No. 99 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jaylen Wright in Round 4, Pick 26 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Cedric Gray in slot 129 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Isaiah Davis at the 162nd overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Johnny Dixon at pick No. 168 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let a safety like Dadrion Taylor-Demerson reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They let JD Bertrand come to them and pounced at No. 216. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Charles Turner III at pick 243 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A quiet steal in the 251st pick: Darius Muasau for less than the market said. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
