You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Zion Logue in Round 6, Pick 44.
The Smith steal is the beam this whole class leans on. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a weapon on the perimeter at a price that makes it sweeter.
Chop Robinson in pick No. 41 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at slot 57, value and slot in agreement. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They let Cooper Beebe come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Mike Sainristil slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 28 is lovely value for the cornerback. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Somehow Tykee Smith was still sitting there in the 125th pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached into another round for Jaylen Wright, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Fair-plus on Christian Jones, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had Omar Speights higher than pick No. 217, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Zion Logue in the 219th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Demani Richardson went about where he belonged in pick 246. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
