Call it larceny. Jeffrey Bassa sat on the board until No. 238, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
They are betting Jackson proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Travis Hunter at No. 3 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
In the 12th overall pick they get a lead back with juice, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Tate Ratledge in Round 2, Pick 2 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Donovan Jackson this early at slot 67. A need, and now a little less of one.
Somehow Andrew Mukuba was still sitting there in pick 103, and they pounced on premier safety value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Smael Mondon Jr. at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor itch, scratched.
Shilo Sanders in the 220th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jeffrey Bassa in pick No. 238 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
