Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Dolphins were there to profit. Riley Leonard, the No. 178 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 6 slot. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They are betting Johnson Jr. proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They took Denzel Burke at par in the 57th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Riley Leonard at the 203rd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Montrell Johnson Jr. in pick No. 246, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
