Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Alfred Collins, the No. 56 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 247. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a lead back with juice, and a steal at that.
The board fumbled Jahdae Barron all the way to the 44th overall pick, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at pick 76 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They will replay Wyatt Milum at the 149th pick for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jihaad Campbell in pick No. 170 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
You do not let a wide receiver like Tre Harris reach No. 171 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Trey Amos in slot 174 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jaxson Dart at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They barely believed it either: Josaiah Stewart still on the board at pick No. 211. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Alfred Collins in slot 247 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
