The Patriots put a flag in the ground for Jarquez Hunter, 118 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
On value alone, Majors makes the weekend a net positive. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Warren at the 39th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kevin Winston Jr. in Round 3, Pick 6 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Ozzy Trapilo at No. 80 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
They reached into another round for Sonny Styles, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jake Majors in pick 141, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Savion Williams in pick No. 221 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A quiet steal in the 223rd overall pick: DJ Campbell for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jarquez Hunter at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
