The Cowboys bet big and early on Kaleb Elarms-Orr, 24 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They will regret leaving offensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. That Clark pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a potential shutdown corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get the heartbeat of the defense at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A reach for Malachi Lawrence in the 59th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Ted Hurst at pick No. 92 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They let Bud Clark come to them and pounced at pick 112. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Kaleb Elarms-Orr in the 152nd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good price on Zane Durant in the 180th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid a round early for Isaiah Nwokobia in pick No. 218, more than the board wanted. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
