The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The Flournoy pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Wiley pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
A conviction pick on Chris Braswell at the 36th pick that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Kamari Lassiter at slot 40, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kiran Amegadjie in pick No. 67 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Devontez Walker in the 78th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zak Zinter. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Mason McCormick at No. 139 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jared Wiley at pick 152 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nice patience on Ryan Flournoy, who had no business lasting to pick 222. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
