If confidence were a draft strategy, the Bills would have aced it. Nadame Tucker at Round 4, Pick 26 is 48 spots clear of where he belonged. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Fields falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
They left a pile of value on the table to take Christen Miller this early at slot 34. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jacob Rodriguez slid further than he should have, and the 88th pick is lovely value for the linebacker. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Malachi Fields in the Round 3 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board had cheaper options than Keylan Rutledge at the 104th overall pick, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Mason Reiger in pick No. 109 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A big swing on Nadame Tucker at Round 4, Pick 26, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Ephesians Prysock in slot 183 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A wild overpay on Robert Spears-Jennings in the 203rd overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Zavion Thomas in Round 7, Pick 1 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
