New England Patriots

The Patriots let Mahogany fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Christian Mahogany at the 137th overall pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

Every board in the league had Tupuola-Fetui lower, and that gap is the story. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Marvin Harrison Jr. · WR · rank 1
In the 3rd overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Caleb Williams · QB · rank 2
Caleb Williams at pick 34 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 69
No drama and no debate, Patrick Paul went about where he belonged in pick No. 68. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 95
They read the board right and Khyree Jackson was the payoff at slot 103. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 98
Steal is underselling it; Christian Mahogany at Round 5, Pick 1 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.5 · Pick 180 · Dylan Laube · RB · rank 157
They robbed the room for Dylan Laube here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.18 · Pick 193 · Zion Tupuola-Fetui · DE-EDGE · rank 215
Zion Tupuola-Fetui in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.11 · Pick 231 · Delmar Glaze · C · rank 192
Taking Delmar Glaze in the 231st pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
