When the story of this class is written, it opens with Hykeem Williams at the 228th overall pick, a reach of 62 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Adding Marvin Mims Jr. by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd overall pick they get juice off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Arvell Reese at the Round 1 slot is the proof. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Good price on Emmanuel Pregnon in pick No. 44, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Zachariah Branch in No. 62 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalon Kilgore. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Trey Moore at Round 5, Pick 7 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach for Ephesians Prysock in the 179th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Hykeem Williams at Round 7, Pick 12 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No edge and no loss on Lander Barton in the 242nd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
