It is the swing that defines the weekend: Jalen Travis in Round 5, Pick 15, a good 114 spots before the room expected him. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Gordon II. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The Commanders clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
You do not let a running back like Omarion Hampton reach pick 63 and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Elijah Roberts. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They let Jayden Higgins come to them and pounced at pick No. 90. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Kyren Lacy at Round 4, Pick 26 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A safety of that caliber at the 148th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jalen Travis at No. 154 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ryan Fitzgerald in Round 6, Pick 14 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
The board fumbled Jordan Hancock all the way to the 238th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Steal is underselling it; Ollie Gordon II at slot 250 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
