They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The cost of the Means reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. That Hadden pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Nice patience on Brian Thomas Jr., who had no business lasting to pick 34. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Patrick Paul in slot 68 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No edge and no loss on Cam Hart in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Mohamed Kamara at the 137th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kamal Hadden at Round 6, Pick 5 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Value said wait; Bub Means in No. 193 says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A slide stopped in the 231st overall pick, with JD Bertrand worth more than the price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
