Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Lions were there to profit. Jake Golday, the No. 59 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 4, Pick 28.
They are betting Dennis-Sutton proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They punted on linebacker, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 21st overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Dani Dennis-Sutton well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
D'Angelo Ponds at pick No. 76 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy bit of business in pick 118, where Genesis Smith graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They robbed the room for Jake Golday here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They let Isaiah World come to them and pounced at slot 157. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Zane Durant in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Steal is underselling it; Josh Cameron at Round 6, Pick 24 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Taylen Green in No. 213 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good price on Kaelon Black in pick 222, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
