After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Every board in the league had Milton III lower, and that gap is the story. The Edwards value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 8th overall pick they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
In the 22nd pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
In pick No. 28 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They paid sticker price for Xavier Legette in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 92 with a little surplus value in Khyree Jackson. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A premium they did not need to pay, Justin Eboigbe a notch or two before his time. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value said wait; Joe Milton III in No. 180 says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board had Tip Reiman higher than Round 6, Pick 18, and the tight end fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 210 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, Tylan Grable at the 231st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
