The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Every board in the league had Robinson lower, and that gap is the story. The Solomon pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at cornerback and interior defensive lineman. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.
Morgan falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 2 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where Jordan Morgan graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board had cheaper options than Jackson Powers-Johnson at Round 2, Pick 8, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Brenden Rice in the 67th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE and leaves cornerback and interior defensive lineman untouched.
Darius Robinson at slot 102 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
By-the-book stuff, Ben Sinnott at the 141st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Frank Gore Jr. in No. 181. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Trevor Keegan at No. 223 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
