Somebody in pick No. 57 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Keon Coleman, the No. 24 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. They will need Hicks to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get an island corner at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They will replay Troy Fautanu at No. 48 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Keon Coleman in the 57th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Marist Liufau at pick 85 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 88 with a little surplus value in Mike Sainristil. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jaden Hicks at pick No. 92 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Will Shipley at the Round 4 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
