This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Elijah Arroyo, the No. 186 name on the board, stolen at the 247th overall pick. Put together, it is a D.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
In slot 17 they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, TreVeyon Henderson at pick 76. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jalon Walker in Round 3, Pick 14 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Andrew Mukuba in pick No. 100 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Ajani Cornelius is a better player than the 110th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: Jake Majors at the 113th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A quiet steal in No. 114: Nicholas Singleton for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Taking Smael Mondon Jr. in Round 4, Pick 36 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They barely believed it either: Cam Skattebo still on the board at No. 170. It fills a real need, too.
Oronde Gadsden II at slot 171 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Addison West at the 187th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Xavier Nwankpa was still sitting there in pick No. 209, and they pounced on premier safety value. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
You do not let a tight end like Elijah Arroyo reach pick 247 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
