Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Bills never addressed offensive lineman, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
That is an interior defensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will need Jackson Jr. to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Chris Godwin gives the group a proven body among the projects. They went 3 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Taking Domonique Orange in slot 91 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A premium they did not need to pay, Darrell Jackson Jr. a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Taurean York at pick No. 112, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They read the board right and Tacario Davis was the payoff at the 126th overall pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A tidy bit of business in No. 165, where Charles Demmings graded well above the range. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Domani Jackson in Round 5, Pick 28 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kevin Coleman Jr. at the 182nd pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They went early on Jimmy Rolder in the Round 7 slot, and the value did not follow. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
