Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys found their guy under center in Sanders: D-.

by BigCountry304 · 2025 NFL Draft · 42 picks · 11 steals · 29 reaches
Value C-
Need B
Trades F
Future B+

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent pick No. 64 on Garrett Greene, a name most had 305 spots down the list. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.

Getting King where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Whatever Shedeur Sanders becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.1 · Pick 1 · Shedeur Sanders · QB · rank 6
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
R1.12 · Pick 12 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
In slot 12 they get a centerpiece for the ground game, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Jalon Walker · LB · rank 20
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where Jalon Walker graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Tate Ratledge · OG · rank 75
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tate Ratledge this early at No. 44. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · Garrett Greene · QB · rank 369
Garrett Greene at the 64th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Alfred Collins · DT · rank 56
A quiet steal in pick No. 67: Alfred Collins for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Kaleb Johnson · RB · rank 41
You do not let a running back like Kaleb Johnson reach the 76th pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.21 · Pick 85 · Shemar Turner · DL · rank 127
Shemar Turner at pick No. 85 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.32 · Pick 96 · LaJohntay Wester · WR · rank 233
LaJohntay Wester in the 96th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.1 · Pick 102 · Rylie Mills · DL · rank 141
They talked themselves into Rylie Mills at pick 102, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.2 · Pick 103 · Hollin Pierce · OT · rank 116
A premium they did not need to pay, Hollin Pierce a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.3 · Pick 104 · Joshua Farmer · DT · rank 121
They jumped the gun on Joshua Farmer, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.18 · Pick 119 · Demetrius Knight Jr. · LB · rank 61
They will replay Demetrius Knight Jr. at Round 4, Pick 18 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.28 · Pick 129 · Andrew Mukuba · S · rank 69
Andrew Mukuba in slot 129 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R4.33 · Pick 134 · Carson Schwesinger · LB · rank 87
Carson Schwesinger in the 134th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.3 · Pick 142 · Bam Martin-Scott · LB · rank 346
Bam Martin-Scott at pick 142 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.11 · Pick 150 · Jason Henderson · LB · rank 333
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jason Henderson in the Round 5 slot, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.16 · Pick 155 · Jason Marshall Jr. · CB · rank 191
They reached into another round for Jason Marshall Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.23 · Pick 162 · Raheim Sanders · RB · rank 155
Fair-plus on Raheim Sanders, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.26 · Pick 165 · Kobe Hudson · WR · rank 206
Kobe Hudson in the 165th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.27 · Pick 166 · Jaylen Reed · S · rank 188
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaylen Reed. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R5.30 · Pick 169 · Sav'ell Smalls · TE · rank 471
A real head-scratcher, Sav'ell Smalls in slot 169 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
R5.31 · Pick 170 · Luke Lachey · TE · rank 198
A wild overpay on Luke Lachey in the 170th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.33 · Pick 172 · Jared Wilson · C · rank 108
Steal is underselling it; Jared Wilson at Round 5, Pick 33 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.34 · Pick 173 · Antwane Wells Jr. · WR · rank 192
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Antwane Wells Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.35 · Pick 174 · Billy Bowman Jr. · S · rank 119
Billy Bowman Jr. at pick 174 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R6.2 · Pick 180 · Shilo Sanders · S · rank 275
A big swing on Shilo Sanders at the 180th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R6.3 · Pick 181 · Brady Cook · QB · rank 277
They reached a country mile for Brady Cook at slot 181, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
R6.12 · Pick 190 · Hayden Conner · OG · rank 213
Value said wait; Hayden Conner in No. 190 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.16 · Pick 194 · Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson · OT · rank 285
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at pick No. 194 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.24 · Pick 202 · Caden Prieskorn · TE · rank 376
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Caden Prieskorn. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.28 · Pick 206 · Kobe King · LB · rank 136
Kobe King at pick 206 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.30 · Pick 208 · Lander Barton · LB · rank 138
They barely believed it either: Lander Barton still on the board at Round 6, Pick 30. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.33 · Pick 211 · Sean Martin · DL-EDGE · rank 403
They talked themselves into Sean Martin at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R6.38 · Pick 216 · Ty French · LB-EDGE · rank 472
Ty French in pick No. 216 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R6.39 · Pick 217 · Joey Slackman · DL · rank 320
Joey Slackman at the 217th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.3 · Pick 221 · Seth Henigan · QB · rank 491
Seth Henigan in slot 221 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.9 · Pick 227 · Jimmy Horn Jr. · WR · rank 351
They reached a country mile for Jimmy Horn Jr. at No. 227, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.23 · Pick 241 · Will Sheppard · WR · rank 353
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Will Sheppard well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.30 · Pick 248 · Aubrey Burks · S · rank 274
Aubrey Burks at pick No. 248 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R7.31 · Pick 249 · Reid Carrico · LB · rank 432
A big swing on Reid Carrico at Round 7, Pick 31, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.39 · Pick 257 · Rayuan Lane III · S · rank 265
They went early on Rayuan Lane III in the Round 7 slot, and the value did not follow. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
