Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Ainias Smith got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at the 182nd overall pick.
The Sinnott pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Caleb Williams in the 34th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
Amarius Mims at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value said wait; Ben Sinnott in the 104th overall pick says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A big swing on Kitan Oladapo at pick No. 136, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Ainias Smith in pick 182 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled Elijah Jones all the way to slot 229, and they scooped it up. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
