Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Eagles spent Round 5, Pick 24 on Taulia Tagovailoa, a name the board had a full 116 spots lower.
Washington falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd overall pick they get a downhill hitter at safety, even if it was a touch early.
Nice patience on Ennis Rakestraw Jr., who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at slot 53 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 97 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Taulia Tagovailoa well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They reached into another round for Frank Gore Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Luke McCaffrey in Round 5, Pick 35. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Brevyn Spann-Ford at pick 178 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jarrian Jones in the 189th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Circle this one: Tahj Washington at the 240th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
