The Packers' one glaring miss is edge rusher, a need they left exactly as they found it. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The Laumea value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Nubin in slot 41, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Edgerrin Cooper at Round 2, Pick 26 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They read the board right and Max Melton was the payoff at pick No. 88. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They did well to land Trey Benson in pick 91, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They let Sataoa Laumea come to them and pounced at the 126th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Tykee Smith slipping to the Round 5 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
