The Packers' one glaring miss is edge rusher, a need they left exactly as they found it. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They will need Smith to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
The dealing was even money, start to finish.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a press-man option on the boundary. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Edgerrin Cooper at the 41st pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Christian Haynes in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Trey Benson in pick 88 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Maason Smith at the 91st overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Christian Jones in pick No. 126, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Tykee Smith in Round 5, Pick 25; it is a wash and a sensible one. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaylan Ford. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
