After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They banked enough surplus on Burton to cover a lot of smaller sins. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th overall pick they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Ladd McConkey at Round 2, Pick 2, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Kingsley Suamataia worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jermaine Burton at slot 103 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Braelon Allen in No. 105 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They robbed the room for Elijah Jones here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
You do not let a cornerback like Nehemiah Pritchett reach the 180th pick and blink. They did not. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Tip Reiman is a better player than pick No. 193 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Evan Williams in the 231st overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nathaniel Watson in the 253rd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It adds depth where they could use a little.
