The board owed the Eagles one, and it paid up: Bralen Trice, the No. 37 name on the board, sitting there at the 97th pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The cost of the Wilson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Logan Hall deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 26 they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Kingsley Suamataia at par in slot 54, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Payton Wilson at Round 2, Pick 24 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Ricky Pearsall at pick No. 89 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Bralen Trice at the 97th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid up for Jaheim Bell at the Round 4 slot when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
Fair-plus on James Williams, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Braelon Allen at the 163rd overall pick is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy bit of business in slot 172, where Joe Milton III graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nathaniel Watson at the 243rd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Nothing to complain about; Matthew Jones went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
