The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Julian Pearl, the No. 204 name on the board, sitting there at the 244th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The cost of the Hopper reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.4 · Pick 36 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 37
No drama and no debate, Jordan Morgan went about where he belonged in pick No. 36. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 39
They took Darius Robinson at par in pick 40, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Zach Frazier · C · rank 62
They paid sticker price for Zach Frazier in the 56th overall pick, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 87
Trey Benson at Round 3, Pick 31 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.33 · Pick 96 · Malik Washington · WR · rank 93
Good price on Malik Washington in slot 96, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.16 · Pick 116 · Tyler Davis · DT · rank 120
Tyler Davis at the 116th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · Elijah Jones · CB · rank 115
A quiet steal in No. 123: Elijah Jones for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Spencer Rattler · QB · rank 117
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Spencer Rattler at the Round 4 slot. It fills a real need, too.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 145
Tommy Eichenberg at slot 133 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.14 · Pick 150 · Trevor Keegan · OG · rank 144
Trevor Keegan at Round 5, Pick 14 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 181
A reach for Ty'Ron Hopper in pick No. 168; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.34 · Pick 170 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 160
Tykee Smith at pick 170 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R5.39 · Pick 175 · Cody Schrader · RB · rank 174
Cody Schrader at the 175th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Cornelius Johnson · WR · rank 188
Cornelius Johnson in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.24 · Pick 199 · Ro Torrence · CB · rank 177
Ro Torrence at No. 199 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Erick All · TE · rank 202
Erick All in the 209th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.38 · Pick 213 · Logan Lee · DL · rank 211
By-the-book stuff, Logan Lee at Round 6, Pick 38 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Caedan Wallace · OT · rank 213
They did well to land Caedan Wallace in No. 217, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · Andrew Raym · C · rank 239
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Andrew Raym. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.24 · Pick 244 · Julian Pearl · OT · rank 204
Julian Pearl at pick No. 244 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
