Whoever sat across the table from the Patriots should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
Shipley at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Bottom line, with Olumuyiwa Fashanu leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 8th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
In No. 25 they get a potential shutdown corner. More want than need.
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They took Ladd McConkey at par in the 34th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.

They paid sticker price for DeWayne Carter in No. 103, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Will Shipley at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
