Somebody took the Eagles to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The board sounded every alarm, and the F is the fallout.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In the end, a class that has to defy its grades just to matter.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Brock Bowers at par in slot 3, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
In the 22nd pick they get a sticky cover corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jonah Elliss at Round 2, Pick 12 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jackson Powers-Johnson. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Payton Wilson in pick 77 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They let Jalen McMillan come to them and pounced at No. 97. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Marshawn Kneeland at pick No. 103, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jaden Hicks at the Round 4 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cam Hart at pick No. 147. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ty'Ron Hopper in the 148th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Cedric Johnson in the 163rd pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Layden Robinson at Round 5, Pick 36 is the proof. It fills a real need, too.
Roger Rosengarten is a better player than the Round 6 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Fair-plus on Isaiah Williams, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A quiet steal in No. 210: De'Corian Clark for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A slide stopped in slot 227, with Brevyn Spann-Ford worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Ja'Had Carter at the 243rd overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
