You build a draft on nights like this. Michael Barrett had no business being available in Round 7, Pick 6, and the Chargers did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss. Bryce Ford-Wheaton gives the group a proven body among the projects.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
Chop Robinson at Round 2, Pick 5 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Caelen Carson at pick No. 70 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value with a capital V on TreVeyon Henderson in pick 105, a genuine coup. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nehemiah Pritchett at the 142nd pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Javion Cohen in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
They did well to land Jacob Cowing in No. 183, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
