Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Carson Schwesinger, the No. 69 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 106. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The Josh Allen pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get a disruptor off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a No. 1 receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Omarion Hampton in the Round 2 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Harold Fannin Jr. at No. 59 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Circle this one: Carson Schwesinger at pick 106 is a fall that decides a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
