The rest of the league will want that one back. Nick Nash tumbling to the Patriots in Round 6, Pick 13 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
The veteran additions, Myles Garrett chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
They read the board right and Ashton Jeanty was the payoff at the 12th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Malaki Starks in Round 2, Pick 13 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at No. 69 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They let Deone Walker come to them and pounced at the 77th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Chris Paul Jr. slipping to slot 105 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A straight-up fair deal on Jonah Monheim at pick No. 145, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jabbar Muhammad in the Round 5 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Nick Nash at pick 191 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Woody Marks still on the board at slot 219. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Circle this one: Luke Lachey at the 222nd overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zeek Biggers in Round 7, Pick 22. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
