Green Bay Packers

Best value of the weekend goes to the Packers for Henderson: B+.

Future B-

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: LaDarius Henderson, the No. 163 name on the board, stolen at the Round 6 slot. The bottom line is a respectable B+.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. It is not that Mustapha is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.3 · Pick 35 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 34
Kamren Kinchens in slot 35 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Kalen King · CB · rank 41
By-the-book stuff, Kalen King at the 41st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 57
They did well to land Chris Braswell in the 64th pick, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 76
Junior Colson at pick 66 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 78
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cooper Beebe at Round 3, Pick 25. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Malachi Corley · WR · rank 79
The board had Malachi Corley higher than the Round 3 slot, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Bucky Irving · RB · rank 93
No drama and no debate, Bucky Irving went about where he belonged in No. 95. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 133
Will Shipley in pick No. 125 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 123
Value with a capital V on Jarrian Jones in No. 135, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.36 · Pick 136 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 139
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Malik Mustapha at safety with quarterback, tight end and other spots open.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 163
LaDarius Henderson in the 217th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
