The board owed the Eagles one, and it paid up: Bru McCoy, the No. 191 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 6 slot like a gift left on the doorstep.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. If Ford pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
They let Edgerrin Cooper come to them and pounced at No. 41. A minor itch, scratched.
Kamari Lassiter in slot 43 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for Kamren Kinchens in the 64th pick, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
They took Chris Braswell at par in Round 3, Pick 10, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ricky Pearsall in the 137th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 147 with a little surplus value in Tyler Guyton. The roster fit checks out.
A straight-up fair deal on Cam Hart at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jaylan Ford at pick 187 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Taking Bru McCoy in the 217th pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jalen Milroe in slot 255 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No edge and no loss on Zion Nelson in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
