This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Ollie Gordon II, the No. 164 name on the board, stolen at slot 238. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.
The Spraggins pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 14 they get a disruptive interior force at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Aireontae Ersery in Round 2, Pick 6 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Matthew Golden at slot 45 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board fumbled Colston Loveland all the way to the 77th overall pick, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Azareye'h Thomas at the Round 3 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Sebastian Castro at pick No. 104 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; Quinshon Judkins at the 143rd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Lander Barton in pick 166, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Deion Burks in pick No. 217, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jared Wilson slid further than he should have, and slot 220 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Javontez Spraggins this early at the 232nd pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
You do not let a running back like Ollie Gordon II reach the 238th overall pick and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
