New England Patriots

The Patriots robbed the room for Gordon II. Final grade: C+.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Ollie Gordon II, the No. 164 name on the board, stolen at slot 238. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.

The Spraggins pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.14 · Pick 14 · Mason Graham · DT · rank 6
In No. 14 they get a disruptive interior force at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Aireontae Ersery · OT · rank 54
Aireontae Ersery in Round 2, Pick 6 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R2.13 · Pick 45 · Matthew Golden · WR · rank 44
Matthew Golden at slot 45 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Colston Loveland · TE · rank 46
The board fumbled Colston Loveland all the way to the 77th overall pick, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.37 · Pick 101 · Azareye'h Thomas · CB · rank 97
Azareye'h Thomas at the Round 3 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R4.3 · Pick 104 · Sebastian Castro · S · rank 86
Sebastian Castro at pick No. 104 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.6 · Pick 143 · Quinshon Judkins · RB · rank 73
Steal is underselling it; Quinshon Judkins at the 143rd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
R5.29 · Pick 166 · Lander Barton · LB · rank 125
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Lander Barton in pick 166, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.1 · Pick 217 · Deion Burks · WR · rank 262
This one needs a full-page explanation: Deion Burks in pick No. 217, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.4 · Pick 220 · Jared Wilson · C · rank 210
Jared Wilson slid further than he should have, and slot 220 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.16 · Pick 232 · Javontez Spraggins · OG · rank 286
They left a pile of value on the table to take Javontez Spraggins this early at the 232nd pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Ollie Gordon II · RB · rank 164
You do not let a running back like Ollie Gordon II reach the 238th overall pick and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
