After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They will need Barrett to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
They took Troy Fautanu at par in slot 36, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Chop Robinson in the 40th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Ja'Tavion Sanders in the 49th overall pick, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Dominick Puni at No. 100, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Javion Cohen in pick 141 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A conviction pick on Michael Barrett at pick No. 181 that the board grades a round light. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Xavier Restrepo in Round 7, Pick 3 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
