You build a draft on nights like this. Tyler Davis had no business being available in the 120th pick, and the Chiefs did the only sane thing and turned in the card. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Sanders has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Emeka Egbuka in Round 1, Pick 25 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Kingsley Suamataia at slot 57 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Tyler Davis was still sitting there in pick 120, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Max Melton at pick No. 125 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Malachi Moore at the 167th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A reach on T.J. Sanders in the 171st overall pick; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Jack Nelson at par in No. 175, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Jake Briningstool went about where he belonged in the Round 6 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
De'Corian Clark in the 220th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
