The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
They will need Jackson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
However the rest shakes out, Jones at that price is a win they earned.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
No drama and no debate, Kiran Amegadjie went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They liked Malachi Corley enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 68. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Dallin Holker in the 104th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Cedric Gray this early at the 117th overall pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Jarrian Jones slipping to Round 4, Pick 36 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jha'Quan Jackson at pick 182 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A real head-scratcher, J.J. Weaver in No. 235 is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value with a capital V on Sheridan Jones in pick 252, a genuine coup. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
