You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Dolphins did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The math is unkind, and the D+ follows.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
Nice patience on Terrion Arnold, who had no business lasting to the 35th pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They did well to land T'Vondre Sweat in slot 55, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Christian Haynes slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
Gabriel Murphy in the 90th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value with a capital V on Javon Foster in Round 5, Pick 1, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
Marist Liufau slid further than he should have, and pick 157 is lovely value for the linebacker. A need, and now a little less of one.
Cornelius Johnson at pick No. 186 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nick Gargiulo at No. 200 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tyler Owens at pick 239 is the proof. It adds depth where they could use a little.
