Nobody else had LT Overton anywhere near the 68th overall pick. The Chiefs did, by 117 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
The Bond pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
If Kenneth Grant and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 32 they get a run-stuffing presence up front, though the board says they badly overpaid.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Colston Loveland. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
LT Overton at the 68th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Isaiah Bond at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Emery Jones Jr. at slot 133 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Rod Moore was still sitting there in pick 254, and they pounced on premier safety value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
