The search is over. The Vikings handed the keys to J.J. McCarthy, and the whole operation now runs on his development. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They will need Leveston to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The McGlothern steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd overall pick they get the face of the franchise. The biggest hole, addressed.
In slot 23 they get an island corner at fair value. More want than need.
Braden Fiske at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Brenden Rice in Round 4, Pick 8. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had Christian Mahogany higher than pick No. 109, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Dylan Laube at pick 167 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Dwight McGlothern slipping to No. 177 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They liked KT Leveston enough to skip the value, taking him in the 230th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Josh Proctor in the 232nd overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
