Washington Commanders

The Commanders lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story.

The Commanders looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Jawhar Jordan at Round 7, Pick 3 regardless, 77 picks early.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Mitchell at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.9 · Pick 9 · Joe Alt · OT · rank 3
In pick No. 9 they get an anchor for the offensive line. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.17 · Pick 17 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 23
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a building block for the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.1 · Pick 33 · Adonai Mitchell · WR · rank 28
Good price on Adonai Mitchell in No. 33, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Nate Wiggins · CB · rank 37
Nate Wiggins at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Ladd McConkey · WR · rank 66
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ladd McConkey. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 53
A cornerback of that caliber at slot 100 is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 127
Value said wait; Tykee Smith in the 102nd overall pick says they were not listening. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 181
This one needs a full-page explanation: Theo Johnson in pick No. 109, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Mohamed Kamara · DL-EDGE · rank 131
Mohamed Kamara at No. 139 is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.5 · Pick 180 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 154
They robbed the room for Cole Bishop here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Jawhar Jordan · RB · rank 300
A real head-scratcher, Jawhar Jordan in pick 223 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
